“Grab Holdings Inc.” is a multinational company for vehicle-application headquartered in Singapore. The company was founded by Malaysian Anthony Tan and Hooi Ling Tan in June 2012, and then in 2014, the company moved its headquarters from Kuala Lumpur(Malaysia) to Singapore. In December 2014, Grab managed to raise US$250 million in funding, invested in full by “SoftBank Group Corp.”, in October 2018, the company raised US$200 million from “Booking Holdings”, in February raised 2020 US$706 million from “Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, Inc.”, and raised more than US$300 million from “South Korea’s “Hanwha Asset Management”.
As their bisinesses, in addition to transportation via private car and motorcycle, the company offers two convenient services such as food delivery and digital payment via “GrabPay”, and we can use all of them on our mobile apps. Also, they mostly operate in Southeast Asia such as Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, Myanmar, Cambodia. That’s why, it can be said that their business is an Asian version of the U.S. “Uber” service, and therefore, on March 26, 2018, Grab took over all of Uber’s Southeast Asian operations.
On the other hand, it was announced on April 13, 2021 that “Grab Holdings Inc.” will be listed on the NASDAQ market using “Altimeter Growth Corporation“, SPAC brand operated by Altimeter Capital. However, the completion date of the merger has been postponed from July to September 2021 (3rd quarter) to October to December 2021 (4th quarter).
